About this product

Natural nephrite jade, hand-cut and hand-polished, with a larger stone at one end for the cheeks, forehead and neck and a smaller stone at the other for under the eyes and around the nose. Both stones turn on brass pins seated in a brass yoke rather than on plastic bushings, which is the difference between a roller that runs quietly for years and one that squeaks and seizes inside a season.

Because this is quarried stone, no two are identical. The green ranges from a deep bottle tone to a pale celadon, and fine mineral veining is a mark of the material rather than a flaw. Nephrite stays cool to the touch on its own and takes a chill well in a refrigerator. Non-electronic, with no motor and nothing to charge.

How to use the roller

The roller needs no instruction so much as a few habits that separate a pleasant five minutes from a tugged, irritated face.

Start with slip, never on dry skin
Apply your usual facial oil, serum or moisturiser first and give it a moment to settle. Dragging stone across dry skin pulls at it. If the roller catches rather than glides, you need more oil, not more pressure.
Roll upward and outward, lightly
Work from the centre of the face outward and from the jaw upward: jaw to ear, cheek to temple, brow to hairline. Three to five passes per area is plenty, and the weight of the stone is most of the pressure you need.
Switch to the small end under the eyes
Start at the inner corner and glide outward toward the temple, three or four light passes each side. Stay on the bone rather than on the soft tissue of the lid.
Clean and dry it after every use
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Never soak the roller, because water sitting in the brass yoke is what eventually stiffens the spin.
